IMPORTING A .PAT FILE FOR A MATERIAL

When the typical parallel and crosshatch patterns are not enough to represent our materials in Revit, we have the option of importing .pat files into Revit. These pattern (.pat) files can be obtained from many different sources or created from scratch. I personally use HatchKit to create patterns of any shape, size and complexity. Once you have these .pat files you can import them for use as Drafting patterns or Model patterns. This example below is for Model patterns; to be used as real scale surface patterns representing real materials. Drafting patterns are more for simple substitution to designate areas.

Importing Patterns into Revit:

On the Manage Tab, select Materials button.

Then select the New Material button at the bottom left.
NOTE:
Of course you could add a surface pattern to an existing material or a duplicated material just as well as making a new one. The next step is selecting the surface pattern.. which would accomplish this.

Name it appropriately and then select Surface Pattern button.

Select MODEL pattern type and then the NEW button. This is where you would detour and use DRAFTING if you were heading down that path.

Select CUSTOM and then IMPORT.

Browse to your .pat file and select it.
It will bring in the name of the pattern automatically.
Then select the OK button!

You’ll need to select OK twice more to finish the creation of the new material.
Your pattern is now ready to use on items in your model.

Have a great time importing these into your current projects. 🙂
I suggest embedding them into your office template if they are commonly used for your projects.
